Working with attachment through every step of the model
This one day workshop will introduce participants to the Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for Couples model and draw attention to how attachment principles guide the treatment process with distressed couples.
At the completion of the day, participants will have a basic knowledge of the stages and steps of the EFT model and the interventions used to assist couples move from distress to security. Participants will be introduced to key principles of attachment and emotion theories, the interventions used in an EFT approach to couple interventions, watch some training materials of Dr Susan Johnson, practise role plays (introductory skills) and participate in a case discussion that demonstrates how attachment principles are used to conceptualise and plan treatment for a distressed couple.
The day will be presented in sections that enable participants to grasp foundation principles first, followed by the application activities (viewing a tap and practicing role plays).
About the presenter
Dr Jennifer Fitzgerald is a Clinical Psychologist who works in private practice in Brisbane, mainly with distressed couples. She also teaches at the University of Queensland, coordinating courses in communication skills for medical students and sex and couples therapy for post grad psychology students.
