Professor Pat Vickers-Rich Palaeontologist Brisbane Sydney Melbourne

Have you ever wondered whether dinosaurs ever roamed across prehistoric Australia? What did they look like? And how did these archaic beasts shape today's geography?

Join Professor Pat Vickers-Rich AO, Swinburne palaeontologist, as she explores a time when a varied fauna of dinosaurs roamed the great rift valley that lay between Australia and Antarctica.

With a number of artefacts from Pat’s Dinosaur Cove collection on display, the evening promises to challenge your knowledge of ancient Australia like never before. The event is also a fantastic opportunity to reconnect and meet other alumni and friends of Swinburne during the cocktail and canapé networking before the mini-lecture.

About the speaker

Professor Pat Vickers-Rich AO is a celebrated Australian palaeontologist who discovered a number of dinosaur fossils in the Otway Ranges and Inverloch in Victoria. There, Pat, her husband Tom Rich and their teams uncovered the plant-eating Leaellynasaura and human sized, fleet-footed relative of T-Rex, Timimus. These discoveries are quite unique, as they are among the few dinosaurs that lived in near the South Pole.

Pat's interests have always been about the path taken by life. She began her career examining the history of Australian birds over the past 40 million years. However, a burgeoning interest in dinosaurs has taken her as far back in time as 600 million years ago.

Pat has also led research teams to remote parts of the planet including; Siberia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Africa. Now, an expert rock whisperer, she has plotted the history of life and climate over past one billion years.
