Swinburne's suite of postgraduate programs in construction management aims to prepare graduates for future roles in managing people, equipment, materials, technological processes and funds in the construction, building and maintenance of buildings and assets in civil infrastructure. This is achieved by providing a structured study of advanced management and engineering techniques in the fields of construction, building and maintenance, with the opportunity to specialise within the program.
These programs are designed to develop:
- an ability to plan construction, building and maintenance operations and to forecast resource needs
- skill at allocation of material resources, and in organisation and leadership of people
- the key issues and concepts of procuring
- knowledge of modern building, construction and maintenance technology
- an understanding of the financial considerations and the risk involved in project funding
- an appreciation of contractual obligations and risk and legal requirements
- an understanding of the requirements of quality management
- an awareness of environmental impacts of construction projects
- an ability to communicate effectively within a project setting
