Student Testimonials
Buddhika, Rob.&Mech: ERCS050
"the experience was invaluable"
"... and I was able to learn so many things that I could not have if I didn't take part in the exchange program. Swinburne's Sarawak campus provides a great location for students to go on exchange as it easier to organise than other placements, is quite cheap and is a great place to be based if you wish to explore different parts of Asia."
Lucas, Mechanical: EMB050
What was it like studying overseas? "In a word: Off the scale! Well that's not a word but
"it was one of the best times of my life."
"... I was able to get exposure to a lot of different parts of Asia both during and after my exchange and am so grateful I was able to discover this part of the world and meet so many awesome people. I love it and am going back to stay for a long time.
Immerse yourself in the culture of where ever you are, get into the local food, hang with the local people, learn the local and just get involved with every opportunity you can because you will never be able to experience anything like it when you get back home"
Samuel, Aviation: M055N
"Everyone that came back from exchange always said that it was the best time of their life"
:...
and I always thought to myself "O yeah, I'm sure it was really good, but the best time of their life?" Well for me, exchange, was the best time of my life. The people I met, the experiences I had and the friends I made meant that the 5 months I spent in North America were just fantastic."
"Everyone that studies and especially everyone that studies aviation should go on exchange, it did not mess up my flying schedule and I was in the homeland of aviation with so much aviation activity all around. I realised how much bigger my chosen industry was and how many more opportunities there are and how exciting it could be in the future. Really, just do it, it'll be the best time of your life
Nick, Rob.&Mech: R050
"I would highly recommend it,"
:...
especially if you've never been overseas. It gives you a new view on life. Go before you get any more commitments in Australia."
Industry Opinion
Does exchange make graduates more attractive to an employer?
David from ARUP believes that it does.
He stated that
'a well-rounded education with the additional challenges and opportunities of a new environment and culture make for a more complete graduate'.
As a professional industry opinion, he believes that industry would see 'multi-lingual staff' as an advantage to the employer as there is increasingly more international based projects.
When asked about graduate employment and whether exchange would give a graduate an advantage, David said 'it is useful but not an ultimate factor. It is more important that the graduate show motivation, initiative, and evidence that they have taken full advantage of whatever opportunities they have'.
