Material Characterisation and Meltflow Behaviour in Fused Deposition Modelling Rapid PrototypingThis project involves an extensive study of mechanical and thermal properties of various FDM materials and an investigation of melt flow characteristics of the materials in the liquefier head to completely characterise the FDM process for developing new materials and new applications.
Computer Modelling of Functionally Graded Materials for Direct Metal Deposition
This project aims at investigating the fundamental issue of computer modelling of functionally graded materials in a CAD environment with the objective of fabricating the modelled functionally graded objects on the direct metal deposition facility Swinburne.
Tissue Engineering Applications using Direct Metal Deposition
This research will focus on the application of Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) process for acquisition of porous structures for tissue engineering applications with in depth investigation on DMD process parameters, DMD materials, scaffolds characteristics and microfluid flow characteristics of human body system relevant to tissue engineering.
Functionally Graded Porous Titanium Structures for Biomedical Applications Using Additive Manufacturing
This project will involve a comprehensive investigation on fabrication and characterisation of porous Titanium parts with functionally graded structures and architectures for biomedical applications meeting the requirements of orthopaedic implants.
Response Surface Methodology for Optimisation of Additive Manufacturing Processes
Project will involve application of RSM (Response Surface Methodology) to a range of additive manufacturing processes where a large number of process parameters greatly affect the quality, accuracy and speed of manufactured parts.
Titanium alloy scaffolds by laser sintering for biomedical applications
This project is aimed at the development of a new class of titanium alloy scaffolds with bone mimicking properties (architecture and mechanical properties of cancellous bones).

Plastic iron breaks the mould
Lying on a benchtop in a laboratory is a human hand. Just 15cm away is the lower jaw of a human skull. It’s not until you see white filaments curling from what would be the fleshy side of the fingers that their synthetic nature becomes apparent.

Prof Masood has supervised to completion 11 PhDs and 11 MEng by research students (as coordinating and associate supervisor), since 2000 under various Australian Research Council (ARC), Cooperative Research Centers (CRC) and Industry grants.
