Julia is a civil, chemical and environmental engineer. She was employed by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria for 10 years as the Cooling Tower Thermal Design Engineer. During that time she designed the Loy Yang B natural draft cooling towers, supervised their construction, undertook the commissioning and oversaw the operation of the towers once the power station went into full production.
Since 1990, she has been employed as a lecturer at Swinburne University of Technology in the areas of civil, chemical and environmental engineering. Her main research area is landfill degradation behaviour.
She is the Director, Engineering Accreditation. This involves leading the faculty‘s industry based learning program and the external accreditation of all engineering programs.
She has been very active within Engineers Australia and on State Government Statutory Authorities and Panels for over 30 years.

Long term performance of pavement line markingThis project involves monitoring the long term performance of common types of line marking materials over time and testing their reflectivity and effectiveness at different times and in different conditions.
Modelling Landfill Degradation Behaviour
This project investigates the prediction of gas generation rates and total gas production from various models using small, medium and large-scale landfill data. These models vary considerably in their level of complexity.

Profit forecast to fire up landfill gas
Accurately predicting how much gas a landfill site is likely to deliver over its lifespan is a challenge one civil engineer is working to address

Human waste offers boon for farmers
Bio-solids is the euphemism the industry uses and Australian farmers are being urged to consider using them instead of expensive synthetic fertilisers.
