Fast and robust control design using piezoelectric micro-actuatorsThe piezoelectric (PZT) micro-actuator can produce extremely small displacements in the range of subnanometer to a few hundreds micrometers.
This research will involve several sub-topics, Modeling, Robust control design and Experimental implementation of control design
Nonlinear servo system for magnetic disk drives
This research aims to explore novel nonlinear control methods to improve the Hard disk drives (HDDs) servo performance.
Design and control of nano–positioning X–Y stage
The XY positioning table uses a drive mechanism to move the platform horizontally along either the X or Y axis.
This research will involve two sub-projects, Mechanical design of a positioning XY stage with nanoscale accuracy and developing control algorithm to coordinate the actuators.
Intelligent disturbance observer design and its applications
This research will explore intelligent disturbance observers to complement the existing methods. More specifically, the outcomes will include but not limited to adaptive disturbance estimation over a broad frequency range and high bandwidth disturbance rejection.
