Top Engineering Students Win Prizes

Wednesday, June 9, 2010

Swinburne's best engineering students from 2009 were recognised at the annual Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences Prize Giving Ceremony on June 4, 2010.

A total of thirty awards were presented to students on the night. Awards were broad ranging and recognised outstanding achievements by students from different disciplines and at various stages in their university career, not just final year students.

As with previous years, the event was strongly supported by industry with companies, industry bodies and individuals donating prizes and attending the evening to make presentations to students.

Recent graduate Tim Joseph (pictured above right) was presented with the W.P. Brown Medal, a most prestigious engineering award at Swinburne. Instigated by Engineers Australia in memory of Swinburne alumnus Dr William Piper Brown, this prize recognises the best all-round final year undergraduate engineering student, taking into consideration academic results and community service.

The Medal was presented by Madeline McManus (pictured on the left), immediate past president of Engineers Australia, Victorian Division, and Nan Brown (pictured center), daughter of W.P. Brown.

Speaking on behalf of the students to close the evening, Jessica Martin thanked family, friends and lecturers for their support whilst studying. Jessica was awarded the Cochlear Prize for the most outstanding Biomedical Engineering Graduate for 2009.
