Prof Syed Masood gave an invited keynote speech at the International Conference on Materials and Manufacturing Technology (ICMMT2010) held at Chongqing in China from 18-19 September 2010.

He was invited by the conference organisers to speak on his latest research in Direct Metal Deposition (DMD) technology.   He also chaired a technical session at the conference.

Three other keynote speakers at the conference were Prof Reggie Davidrajuh from Norway, Prof Sachio Hirokawa from Japan and Prof Chin-Chen Chang from Taiwan.  The conference was organised by The International Association of Computer Science and Information Technology, and was attended by over 200 researchers from overseas including Europe, India, Malaysia, Iran and Japan.

Prof Masood is currently supervising 3 PhD students involving direct metal deposition rapid manufacturing, based on the POM DMD 505 machine at IRIS.  This machine, the only one in Australia, was installed at IRIS in 2007 under funding from Victorian government and an ARC LIEF grant led by Prof Masood and Prof Brandt.
