Plug In For Power Seminar & Showcase

Plug in for Power was organised to showcase and engage stake holders for Electric Vehicle technologies. All major OEM’s were displayed such as GM, Toyota, BEV, TAFE, student cars and charging stations.

The seminar captured recent developments and future of electric vehicles in Australia, Japan and China.

This conference provided opportunities for networking and collaboration to companies, universities, government sectors and community for a sustainable future. Totally 110 participated for this event including government bodies, CRC’s, OEM’s, industry partners, academics, researchers and students. The event was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor of Swinburne University, Professor Ian Young. Professor Young welcomed all participants to the event, emphasised on role of universities and research to make EV an alternative technology to IC engines.

The Member of Parliament for Greens, Adam Bandt opened the event and advised possible government role in allowing these vehicles to roll into
Australian markets.

Professor Ajay Kapoor Associate Dean Research, FEIS from Swinburne held the MC position during this event. Seminar started with Richard Marshall from GM, discussing GM plans for next few years including Volt launch.

Professor Kong from Hefei University of technology, China presented paper on power electronics and its collaborations with other Chinese car manufacturers like Cherry. Sim drive, Japanese company pioneering in wheel motors presented series of cars, buses and truck developed as fully electric versions.

Tim Watts from Better place described efforts taken by his company in making electric vehicle as an alternative technology. Jon real from Department of Infrastructure gave a brief on design rules and standards in Australia from an EV standpoint.

Tony Hollenkamp updated EV technology and CSIRO roles in developing batteries, drive trains, light weight vehicles, and conversions. Ashley Sanders from Mitsubishi updated on maintenance and safety after sales of EV’s.

Professor Simon Watkins from RMIT conducted panel session with all presenters and more than 20 questions from all participants were answered.

Deputy Vice Chancellor Andy Flitman thanked every one and acknowledged all organisers of the ceremony.
