Cuie Wen invited to International Workshop on Nanocrystalline Materials

Monday, December 20, 2010

Professor Cuie Wen, from IRIS, Faculty of Engineering and Industrial Sciences was invited to present at the International Workshop on Nanocrystalline Materials, held from Dec. 20-25, 2010 in Kunming, China.

This international workshop was organized by Kunming University of Science and Technology and the Department of Education of Yunnan Province  to review and update on progress of the ongoing research and development into Nanocrystalline Materials and discuss the future research directions in this exciting research area.

The workshop covered four topics:

  • Synthesis and processing of nanocrystalline materials,
  • Microstructural design and characteristics of nanocrystalline materials,
  • Mechanical properties of nanocrystalline materials and
  • Deformation and strengthening mechanism of nanocrystalline materials.

Professor Wen introduced the research on Nanocrystalline Titanium of her group at the workshop. She met old and new friends among experts and exchanged research ideas during the meeting.

A collaborative research on nanocrystalline titanium and copper between IRIS, Swinburne and Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) has been proposed.

Professor Wen also encouraged UG students from KUST to apply for PhD scholarships from Swinburne.
