AusIMM Student Meets Industry Night

The AusIMM Melbourne Student Chapter in conjunction with the AusIMM Melbourne Branch is holding its annual Students Meet Industry (SMI) night on Wednesday 24 March 2010, at the Sofitel on Collins in the Melbourne CBD.
The purpose of purpose of the SMI night is to provide an event that allows students to gain an insight into the broad range of careers available within the minerals industry.
The speakers at this event focus on their personal stories, "why I like my job" and "how they got there", rather than a "corporate pitch". Through sharing their experiences these speakers hope to provide tertiary students with a picture of the opportunities, benefits and challenges available to people in the minerals industry.
More than 300 students from Melbourne, Monash, RMIT, Swinburne, La Trobe, Victoria, Deakin and Ballarat Universities are expected to attend and hear from a variety of companies including:
- Newcrest
- BHP Billiton
- Ivanhoe Australia
- Peabody Pacific
- Atlas Copco
- AngloGold Ashanti
- Worley Parsons
- Iluka
- Amdel
In addition to the companies above, there will be information tables established enabling students to gather a wide range of information on careers and companies. The AusIMM and its Women in Mining Network will also be represented at the evening.
