Overview
The objective of this project is to develop a fault detection and classification system for manufacturing defects in composite materials using ultrasonic inspection tools. Current best practice involves manual inspection of each panel by a trained expert in ultrasonic inspection and as a result is very time and labour intensive.
Key outcomes for this project include: A database of ultrasonic signal responses to various defects in selected composite materials; Development of algorithms to identify normal ultrasonic signal responses of faults in new materials; Fuzzy results reporting by indicating percentage match of current scan to each possible fault.
