High Temperature Processing
High temperature processes are an essential element of advanced industrial societies. They dominate energy, metal and materials production. Controlling and optimising these processes requires sophisticated understanding of thermodynamics, chemical kinetics, transport phenomena, fluid dynamics and advanced control systems.

As many of these technologies are mature, the emphasis is now on advanced process control using mathematical models to inform operators or directly control the various process steps. High temperature processes are also an essential element in developing a sustainable materials industry through development and optimization of recycling processes and the containment and processing of waste generated from these processes.
The High Temperature Processing (HTP) group at Swinburne is active in these areas through fundamental research, collaborative industrial research, consultancy and short courses.
The Robert Simpson High Temperature Laboratory in the new $140 million research and education ATC building provides state of the art scientific equipement to support this work.
