Michael Ventura awarded Vice Chancellor's Research Award

Congratulations to CMP postdoctoral research fellow Dr. Michael James Ventura who has been awarded Vice Chancellor's Research Award (Early Career) for his research into photonic crystal fabrication and uses.

Dr. Ventura was awarded the prestigious research award for:

  • development of a novel method that uses synthetic crystalline materials, photonic crystals (PCs), to manipulate light

  • the impact of his research, opening new possibilities in a broad range of fields, including development of new solar harvesting devices

  • a seminal publication on the use of polymer-based PCs in controlling spontaneous emission

  • cementing Swinburne's reputation locally and internationally, as a leader in micro-photonics research.
