Under Swinburne Visiting Research Scheme, Prof. Amit Chattopadhyay is visiting CMP

Professor Amit Chattopadhyay is visiting Swinburne 31st March-15th April 2014 as part of the Swinburne Visiting Research Scheme. I have scheduled his seminar for April 9th at 2:30pm in AS404. His talk “Excitements and Challenges in Biomembranes” should be of interest to biologists, chemists and physicists alike.

Prof. Chattopadhyay’s work is focused on monitoring organization, dynamics and function of biological membranes in healthy and diseased conditions.

Prof. Chattopadhyay was awarded the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award, Ranbaxy Research Award, and currently is a J.C. Bose Fellow of the Dept. of Science and Technology, Govt. of India. He is an elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and all the Indian Academies of Science, the Andhra Pradesh Akademi of Sciences, and West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology. Prof. Chattopadhyay is currently on the editorial boards of a large number of reputed international journals that include Biophysical Journal, The Journal of Physical Chemistry, Journal of Neurochemistry, BBA-Biomembranes, and ACS Chemical Neuroscience.

Prof. Amitabha Chattopadhyay received B.Sc. with Honors in Chemistry from St. Xavier’s College (Calcutta) and M.Sc. from IIT Kanpur. He obtained his Ph.D. from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook, and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of California, Davis. He subsequently joined the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) in Hyderabad and is now an Outstanding Scientist (Director level) there.
