Frequently Asked Questions

I commenced my course prior to 2005 - How does this affect me?
Students who commenced prior to 2005 will have the new requirement applied retrospectively, however, existing international students undertaking extra assessment instead of attending seminars may continue in this mode if they wish.

I commenced my course in 2005 - How does this affect me?
All new enrolling students from 2005 will be required to complete HES6699 Aviation Seminars as part of their program.
Additional assessment in lieu of HES6699 will not be available to new enrolling students for 2005 and beyond.

How many seminar days am I required to attend?
All students are now required to attend one Seminar series only, a total of three full days.

What if I cannot attend seminars?
Requests from students who consider that they have compelling reasons for not attending the seminars, such as an inability to travel internationally to Melbourne, will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. If the student’s request is accepted, he/she will be required to attend a seminar of equivalent learning value at a convenient location and time. Documentary evidence of the content and of the student’s attendance, including prior approval, will be required to consider if the student has met the requirements of HES6699.

How will this be recorded?
We have created a new subject, HES6699 Aviation Seminars. An ungraded pass will be achieved through satisfactory attendance (3 full days) at one Swinburne postgraduate seminar / workshop.

Can I attend additional seminars?
Enrolled Aviation students may attend additional seminars at no cost.

When will I hear more details about the next seminar series?
Late August.
