Aviation interviews and skills assessment testing are a mandatory requirement for anyone seeking to enrol in one of the following programs at Swinburne University of Technology:
- Advanced Diploma of Technology (Aviation),
- Bachelor of Aviation or
- Bachelor of Aviation/Bachelor of Commerce.
If you have applied through VTAC or submitted a Direct Entry application to Swinburne, you are automatically registered to attend an interview and undertake the skills assessment test.
All VTAC and Direct Entry applicants will be contacted in early November and invited to attend both the skills assessment and interview, which will usually be held on two separate days scheduled during the last week in November
Interview and Assessment Details
The interviews and skills assessment tests will be held at Oxford Aviation Academy, 19 Second Ave, Moorabbin Airport, Melbourne.
Skills Assessment tests are usually scheduled for the last week in November, on a separate day to the interview. Applicants are given two hours to complete the test. The cost of the skills assessment test is approximately $90.00 (inclusive of GST)***.
Interviews are usually scheduled for the last week in November, on a separate day to the Skill Assessment and will take approximately 20 minutes.
***Payment is required on the day of the skills assessment service. Acceptable methods of payment are cash or EFTPOS. If paying by Credit Card, a 2% surcharge will apply.
What will be tested?
- Pilot aptitude, including hand/eye co-ordination, motor skills and spatial awareness
- Mathematical Operations, including multiplication, fractions, percentages and ratios

Assessment and Outcome
In assessing your application, the selection process will consider academic prerequisites, the skills assessment test and the interview.
In January, applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application and students eligible to enrol in the program will be advised of the next step of the process.

All applicants are encouraged to ensure that they have obtained information about the program and VTAC entry requirements.
Anyone contemplating a career as a pilot would be well advised to undertake a medical examination, at least to PPL level, at an early stage of their career considerations. Information on designated medical examiners may be obtained by contacting the Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
