Simple cross platform cds

Using Nero Burning Rom on a pc to burn a cross platform cd start up the application and load a cd into the appropriate drive.

Go to File/New to start a New Compilation and click on the Cd-Rom (ISO) icon. Make sure the Multissession tab is visible by clicking on it and select the No Multisession option, which ensures you are creating an ISO Cd-Rom. Why are we creating an ISO Cd-Rom? An ISO 9660 File System is a standard Cd-Rom file system allows users to read the same Cd-Rom whether you're on a pc or a mac.

New Compliation

With the ISO tab selected select ISO Level 2 next to File name length. Up to 31 characters are permitted for Windows 95 and higher. Names cannot be more than 11 characters long for Windows 3.1 (8 for the name and 3 for the extension). ISO Level 2 will be best in most cases - if you know that the CD must also be readable on a Windows 3.1 system then you should select Level 1 and make sure that none of the relaxed ISO restrictions are selected.

New compilation

Under the Label tab name you cd with your student name or number. You can use letters A-Z, digits 0-9 and the underscore character. Diacritic marks (accents) and spaces are not supported.

Label

The remaining tabs for now can be left at the default settings, which means it is time to add your files so click the New button on the right to bring up an empty compilation window for the Cd. To add your files, locate the files in question and using a drag and drop method select the files you want to burn in the file browser and drag them into the compilation window. You should have something like this.

Nero

Click on the Write CD icon at the top of the screen to open the write dialog box.

Write CD

Make sure you the Compilation Window is active, which is indicated by the blue colour of the title bar. If you have the File Browser window selected you will not be able to start writing your cd. With the Burn tab in front make sure that Finalize Cd is selected so that no further writing is possible. This will close the session of the cd so that it is write protected.

Burn Compliation

Click on the Burn button on the right to start the burn process. Nero will display the progress of your cd in a status window. A typical final message would be: 'Burn process was successful with 12x (1800 KB/s)' and you're done.
