Maya Texturing - Look Development Workflow

Author: Steven Murdoch

This tutorial will take you through a process called 'look development', which allows you to very quickly explore the texturing process in Photoshop, and then project your concept back onto the model to kick start a more formal texturing workflow.

This tutorial was inspired by the look development technique as practised by Alex Alvarez's, 3D Creature Development Master Class. Which I highly recommend working through, as it covers this process in much greater detail.

Key topics:
- Assessing UV layout
- Exporting render layers
- Compiling in Photoshop
- Projecting textures onto a mesh

This tutorial was recorded using Autodesk Maya 2010 and Adobe Photoshop CS4.
Some aspects of this tutorial may differ depending on the software version being used.
