Maya Modeling - Box modeling a human head

Author: Steven Murdoch

This series of tutorials will guide you step by step how to model a realistic human head, using the common 'box modeling' approach. These tutorials will cover preparing reference material using Adobe Photoshop, blocking out key areas of the head, adding details, and how to render and create a presentation image, showing the wireframe and default shaded version of final head and neck geometry.

It is important to note, that there are many methods and techniques of modeling an organic figure like a human head. This is just one method that produces a good result. I highly recommend sourcing other tutorials and resources on head modeling to broaden your understanding of the organic modeling process.

please, please, please could you set up the rest of the videos? this is quite possibly the best tutorials on maya I have ever seen, well thought out, simple, step by step and explained in a way that is easily understood and not rushed through.
I know this is a student resource produced by your institution, but just allowing the general public access shows what nice people you are.

Thank you! Thank you very much, I successfully created my first human head. You made it possible, you cleverly used extrusion. It's way easier than other tutorial over the net.

Great tutorial!
The head has always been my weak point when modeling the human body. Needless to say I got nervous when my Professor said that I had to have a human modeled in a week on top of my other classes. Until now I'd been working on the method "Well if it looks good smoothed it's ok for now".

But this tutorial was easy to understand and I actually learned good edge flow for the head and I think I may even be able to take those first steps on modeling a human head on my own in my next attempt.

Cheers!
Michelle
