Strategic Design
Research Leader: Dr Simon Jackson
All industrialised nations now recognise the economic value of design, but the history of design and many aspects of its contemporary state are not well understood. This is especially the case in post-industrial economies such as Australia where the design object is being dematerialised and replaced with Systems and Services design.
Areas of Focus
- Design History and Theory, with a special interest in the history of design in Australia.
- Applied Design Heritage and potential relations between new product development and national cultural heritage, seeing this as a means of adding value to design projects in the context of globalisation.
