Professor Lueckenhausen is the Pro-Vice Chancellor and CE at Sarawak, Chair of Swinburne Academic Board and a member of the Council of Swinburne University of Technology.

He has been Secretary of the World Craft Council (a category 'A' NGO of UNESCO) and has served on many national and international boards and committees, including the International Craft Design Association, Craft Australia, the Design Institute of Australia (of which he is a Fellow) and committees of the Australia Council.

Professor Lueckenhausen is a leading exponent in the field of studio furniture, having maintained a regular national and international lecture program, including forum, conference and workshop presentations. His work has been exhibited in the United States, Japan, Germany, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Iran, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia and Spain. He is represented in the permanent collections of the Australian National Gallery as well as public galleries and museums in six states and territories. His other major area of practice involves paper engineering for advertising, illustration and exhibition.

Professor Lueckenhausen's PhD thesis, 'Iconism Narrative and Contemporary Mythology, in Design - Creating a New Perceptual Category', links the visual narrative within which his works operate to the domain of cognitive phychology and the development of a new perceptual - cognitive theory.
