Stephen has worked in all facets of the design discipline including; academia, lecturing, design promotion, manufacturing R&D and product development consultancies.

As Director, Industry Liaison, Stephen is responsible for the faculty's student industry placement program and external engagement with industry, government and professional organisations.

In 2009 Stephen was executive officer for Cumulus 38° South, the first Cumulus international design education conference in the southern hemisphere. This conference presented over 70 design research papers. Stephen also managed a series of design thinking forums delivered by international speakers. He co-ordinated the Product Design Engineering program for over 9 years and in 2001 he received the Vice Chancellors Excellence in Teaching Award.

Stephen’s previous roles include Manager, Tertiary Network, with Lab.3000 hosted by RMIT University. This agency, funded by the Victorian Government, provided showcase events, international speakers, exhibitions and design competitions for the student and academic design networks across Victoria.

As a consultant product designer Stephen has managed teams to design and develop numerous local and international consumer products in organisations such as Black & Decker, Email Electronics, NEC, ERG, Wilco Electrical and Vulcan Industries.

Stephen holds an MBA from Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship at Swinburne University of Technology.
