Ian de Vere is a lecturer into the Industrial Design and Product Design Engineering undergraduate programs and is currently completing his PhD. His research involves investigation of new directions in engineering education with emphasis on creative, human-centred and responsible practice through the integration of ‘designerly ways’ into the engineering curricula.
Ian’s extensive industry experience involves product design and development, design for the public domain, commercial furniture design and educational museum design for children.
His work has been acknowledged with an Erasmus Mundus Academic Scholarship, an Australian Design Award for consumer product design and a Swinburne Vice-Chancellors Award for his commitment to socially responsible design.
He publishes in the area of pedagogy and curricula development for design and engineering education and is a reviewer for several conferences and journals including the International Conference on Engineering and Product Design Education (E&PDE), the International Conference for Engineering Design (ICED), and the European Journal of Engineering Education.
