Roger is Director of the Design Centre at the Faculty of Design. In January 2004, he joined the University to take up this position, having founded and been CEO of a large Melbourne based, multi-discipline design consultancy over a 25 year period.
Professor Simpson has been a member (1986-04) and chair (1995-04) of the Swinburne Design Course Advisory Committee. He is a Life Fellow of the Design Institute of Australia, in both Industrial Design and Graphic Design and is a past State (1989-92) and National President (1992-94).
In 1991, he carried out the research program for Professor Iain Wallace the previous Vice Chancellor of SUT which resulted in the establishment of the Faculty of Design at the Prahran campus, the move to embrace multi-discipline design strategies together with the establishment of postgraduate research activities. He recently completed another research study "Future Strategies for the Faculty of Design" for Professor Lueckenhausen.
Since graduating from RMIT in 1972, the great breadth of business projects undertaken and official roles represented the design profession have resulted in extensive and unique Australian and overseas experience, in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
Professor Simpson is recognised internationally as an authority on design analysis and as an award-winning designer of consumer durable products, brand and visual identity programs, marketing communications/collateral, packaging, architectural graphics/signage systems, retail presentation, modular merchandising systems, exhibitions, and e-business web sites.
