Professor Allan Whitfield is Research Professor and Director of the National Institute for Design Research. He has published extensively in both the psychology and design literature, including, in the former, the British Journal of Psychology, Perception & Psychophysics, and Vision Research, and in the latter, Design Studies, Design Issues, and Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Science. His research interests are in the fields of aesthetics (the user experience, and psychological modelling), colour psychology and cognition, and the public's perceptions of design and designers. He is chair of the industry committee British Standards Institution (STI/14) Colour Measurement and Schedules, a member of Standards Association of Australia (CH/3), and Leader of the UK Delegation to the International Standards Organisation Technical Committee (ISO/TC187).
