Past Study Tours

Since 2003 the Faculty of Design has organised a range of study tours and residential programs so our students may experience another culture, and engage with students, lecturers and industry from another country.

Residential Programs FOR 2011

WINTER SEMESTER TOURS - 2011

Option 1. Treviso Residential Program: Italian Cinema APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED

Open to: 2nd and 3rd year Undergraduate students studying in ANY Film or Design discipline.
Academic Value: 2 units (25 credit points) / Costs: $2,600 2-week program plus you purchase your own flights. $3,500 4-week program plus you purchase your own flights.
Topic of Study: Italian Cinema & Italian Neorealism Cinema as a Contemporary Production Methodology (Location as Character)
Duration: 2 weeks or 4 weeks / Travel Dates: 2 weeks: 2nd July to 17th July. 4 weeks: 19th June to 17th July 2011
Location: Conegliano near Treviso, about 30km north of Venice in white sparkling wine country.

Option 2. Copenhagen: Design & Society in Denmark APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED

Open to: 2nd and 3rd year Undergraduate students studying in ANY Design or Film discipline.
Academic Value: 1 unit (12.5 credit points) / Costs: $3,040 plus you purchase your own flights
Topic of Study: Design and Society in Denmark (see flyer for details)
Duration: 3 weeks / Travel Dates: 13th June - 1st July (WINTER SEMESTER 2011)
Location: Copenhagen, Denmark (famous for Industrial and Interior Design, Architecture, Princess Mary, the Little Mermaid). For more about Denmark see links on study tour flyer (click here).

Option 3. Electives Plus @ Sarawak - STILL TAKING APPLICATIONS


Open to:
All students who can incorporate one of the available units into their course as an elective or core unit.

Academic Value: 1 unit (12.5 credit points) / Costs: Land-only program costs $1500
Topic of Study: Career skills development (see flyer for details).
Duration: 4 weeks / Travel Dates: 4th July - 29th July (WINTER SEMESTER 2011).
Location: Sarawak, Malaysia (famous for sandy beaches and tropical rainforests).

BERLINALE: The Berlin International Film Festival, February 2011

APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN! (Applications Closed)

The 2011 Berlin Film Festival Study Tour (7th - 24th February 2011) is for Film and Television students. You will spend two weeks in Berlin attending the Berlinalé, visiting film schools, sightseeing and soaking up other cultural aspects of the city. Then finish in the historical city of Prague, exploring and visiting the internationally acclaimed Prague Film School.

GERMANY / SWITZERLAND TOUR 2010

APPLICATIONS NOW OPEN! (Applications Closed)

Tour dates: November 21 - December 12,2010
Aimed At: Industrial Design, Product Design Engineering & Interior Design undergraduate students

Where: Berlin, Frankfurt Basel & Zurich.

What's on: First you will be part of one of the most culturally exciting and stimulating cities in Europe, Berlin, and participate in a project at our partner institution KH-Berlin. Then it's on to Frankfurt for the Euromold World Fair where you will learn the latest materials and manufacturing techniques. While in Frankfurt, you'll also get to explore the the amazing Christmas markets.  Across the German Swiss border you'll visit the Vitra Design Museum, a prominent piece of modern architecture designed by Frank Gehry, then on to Zurich where the tour will conclude. 

 

UK/FRANCE STUDY TOUR 2010 (NEW FOR 2010)

London Lights / Paris Snow

  • Open to Bachelor of Design (Communication Design) Students
  • Where: London & Paris
  • When: 19th November - 10th December  2010 (3 weeks)
  • The tour is a formal academic study unit and is worth 12.5 credit points.
  • Numbers will be strictly limited to 12 students.  

Begin your tour with 12 days in London. Explore the museums and galleries, the streets and architecture of one of the worlds most famous cities. Visit famous design schools and prominent design studios — and take in the sights, sounds and smells that are unique to London. Then catch the Eurostar and go through the Channel Tunnel to Paris where it all starts again. Paris, 9 days of the some of best museums, galleries, architecture, design schools and design/architecture studios this iconic city has to offer. After that you could stay on for Christmas… 

The UK/FRANCE Study Tour has a strong Communication Design focus but will include art, and architecture as its other major themes.

The tour is a formal academic study unit and is worth 12.5 credit points. The tour will therefore involve formal academic components including a study plan based around the tour itinerary, design related outcomes and a group exhibition based on the tour.

  • 23 students from the Faculty of Design on an Amercian Adventure Study Tour in June 2009. Students attended the San Francisco Design Week plus visits to cultural sites, art and design museums, and design studio tours in San Francisco and NYC.
