Swinburne is a pioneer of Industry Placement in Australia, where students spend part of their degree gaining skills and knowledge in industry. The Design Centre is a working design studio that offers an internal industry placement. It undertakes innovative design projects, especially where design outcomes are achieved through research, analysis and reflection. Design Centre develops skills in client liaison, brief taking, contract reporting, supervision and coordination of suppliers, preparation of written quotations and creative proposals, project and production management, group leadership, concept presentation and marketing. It allows participants to apply professionally related skills and the latest design techniques to the development of complex projects. Projects may include both commissioned and self-determined projects. |
