"Every subject, every project and every lecturer taught me something different and challenged me in a different way. Being such a hands-on degree is one of the main reasons Product Design Engineering was such an enjoyable course. From the workshop to the rapid prototyping machines available to students, it was very easy to assess and develop the ergonomics and form of your design. Also, the way each subject related to one another really encouraged testing newly learnt theories and skills during the execution of different design projects.

I went on exchange to Troyes, France in first semester of my third year and studied five engineering subjects in French – a life changing experience! I also worked at an industrial design and product development company during my fourth year as part of the Industry-Based Learning (IBL) program, a huge learning curve that has proved invaluable in my professional career.

I am currently working as a Graduate Mechanical Engineer, who dabbles in the Industrial Design department – and loving it! Swinburne provided me with some incredible opportunities and definitely created a perfect foundation to move into the professional world.

If you want a more intimate, involved and hands on tertiary education, Swinburne is definitely ideal. Particularly for women wanting to study engineering – don’t be intimidated by the male dominated industry – we can achieve great things and really make our mark as women in engineering!"

"The Swinburne Design Faculty offers a degree that encompasses both design principles and engineering technologies. There are only a few places where you can study this in the world.

What I enjoy most about my course is its close link to industry. I feel like I can already see a career pathway after I graduate so the difficulty in finding my first job is not something I’m worried about. I’ve been working part time in a Biomedical Engineering firm doing technical documentation and product development whilst I’ve studied for the past year. I’m due to graduate in 6 months and will hopefully continue working with them in a full time position next year."
