The John Bowring ACS Memorial Scholarship
The John Bowring ACS Memorial Scholarship was established in 2011, to provide funds to a student enrolled in the first year of the Film and Television program at Swinburne University of Technology. The scholarship will be offered to a student who is from a low-SES, rural or regional, indigenous or non-English speaking background.

Value
The scholarship is valued at $3,000 per year for a maximum period of one year. The scholarship will provide support for the purchase of course materials including computers, books, film and any other requirements. The award cannot be used to subsidize fee costs.
About John Bowring
John Bowring ACS was a working cinematographer and owner of Lemac, Australia’s largest private film and video rental company. He was passionate about sharing his film production knowledge with new filmmakers and experienced colleagues.
John had a passion for the Australian film industry and the importance of nurturing the next generation of filmmakers. This passion led him to become the greatest industry champion of the Swinburne School of Film and Television. He was a key figure in the original industry advisory panel that set the agenda for the new Bachelor of Film and Television in 2003, and had ongoing instrumental influence in providing guidance to staff on course design, equipment selection, and the needs of industry in educating employable film and television graduates.
John’s efforts kept the Swinburne School of Film and Television on the cutting edge of production and industry innovation, and created one of Australia’s most successful production focused programs. His powerful contribution is evidenced in the string of national and international awards the program and those who have studied it have earned in recent years.
