Accessibility
The concept of web page accessibility in this context refers to the ability of the search engine crawler to access the web page, rather than the ability of people with disabilities to access the web page.
Valid HTML
Web browsers work by interpreting pages of code and rendering them on screen. If they cannot recognize the code properly information can be displayed strangely.
The same principle applies to search engines. If the search engine cannot interpret the page properly, then it will not be able to store the information contained on the page within it’s database.
Form submission
Search engines can be blocked from reaching content if it can only be accessed via a form submission.
For example, if your course information is located within Course Finder it may be invisible to search engines unless a direct hyperlink is provided somewhere else on the site.
Uptime of web server
Search engines can only index your webpage if the webserver is up and running.
Luckily Swinburne’s web site is hosted on 8 websites which are load balanced. If one web server goes down another takes over.
File size
Files which are over 150K in size are not properly indexed by the search engines.
