All of our formal surveys are optional. But the information
you provide is important! (Back to top)
The survey form won't display properly
The forms use javascript and activeX to function properly.
For example, some questions, only appear if you have answered "Yes"
in a previous question. If your browser security settings are set
too high, the form may not load properly. You may need to
change your security settings in order for the form to load properly.
Click here for instructions on how change your settings in a couple
of the most popular browsers. If you still have trouble, drop us
an e-mail and we will see if we can solve the problem. (Back

Why don't I have any Student Feedback (on teaching and units) Surveys to complete?
At the moment, only Higher Education is using formal online surveys
of subjects. TAFE is currently using other processes to evaluate
subjects/units and online surveys are under development.
It is also the case that not all subjects are formally surveyed
every time they are run. The current policy is that every
subject/unit is surveyed at least once per year, so not all units
will be evaluated every semester and not all teachers are surveyed
for every unit.. If you think that a subject you are enrolled
in should be surveyed or feel that you would like to provide feedback
for specific teaching staff, let us know in an e-mail and we can
make the suggestion to the relevant Faculty. .(Back

What do I do if I want to
provide feedback when there are no surveys open?
You can provide feedback whenever you want. To do so, simply
click on the word Feedback,
which is at the bottom of each Swinburne Web Page. This will
take you to a list of types of feedback. To make a complaint or
provide positive feedback about what we are doing well, go to the
Service
Feedback form. This feedback can be anonymous or you can
ask to be contacted regarding action taken in relation to the issues
raised. (Back to top)
Do you know my student ID?
Yes we do. When you log into the My Swinburne portal, the
survey system loads in demographic information (such as gender or
international status) and your program/course enrolment details.
This is so that we can be sure we are accessing accurate information
and also to allow us to do in-depth analysis on the results to develop
the most effective improvement plans. We do not
pass on any information which could identify you to the faculty
or any other area of the University. The reports that we provide
do not identify individuals and we do not
generate separate reports where the program responses are under
10 or unit responses are under 5. (Back to top)
Will you pass on any identifying information
to anyone else?
We do not pass on any information which could identify you to any
other area of the University. The reports that we provide do not
identify individuals and we do not generate separate reports where
the program responses are under 10 or unit responses are under 5.

What happens to my comments?
We generate a number of reports from the survey results. Firstly,
we generate individual reports with comments for all subject/units
with more than 5 responses or programs/courses with more than 10
responses. We also generate department/school/faculty reports which
give a breakdown on how their units/programs are performing and
also reports to the various facilites and student services areas
which include comments about their services. We do "moderate"
the comments, which means that we do a skim read to identify any
comments which might be offensive or embarrassing and are not constructive.
These comments may be removed by SPQ. Please ensure that your
comments are constructive and relate specifically to your experience
of the program, unit or teaching, as these comments appear in reports that go to academic and faculty staff to help us improve. (Back to top)
What should I include in
my comments?
The written comments are often the most valuable and important
information that we collect through our surveys. They help
us to work out what to do in response the the results for the questions
we have asked. We do ask you, however, not to include comments
which identify individual staff or students or which could be considered
embarrassing or offensive. A good rule of thumb is to only write
what you would be comfortable with your grandmother reading! Also
we would recommend that you do not provide comments which are so
specific it could identify you. SPQ vet all comments and will remove
surveys where comments are deemed offensive, but we hope that this
will not be the case. Don't leave your computer unattended
when you have your My Swinburne portal open just in case!!. (Back

Who is looking after the formal University
surveys?
The Evaluation Services team! We are part of the Strategic
Planning and Quality Unit which is located in the Chancellery
(including the office of the Vice
Chancellor). We are independant of the teaching, research
, and corporate areas of the University. (Back
