Student Feedback on Teaching (SFT)
Higher Education
The SFT is available for completion twice a year through the My Swinburne student portal.
The Student Feedback on Teaching survey has been developed in order
to provide feedback to academic staff on their teaching practice.
Results from this survey may be used in the development of teaching
portfolios, applications for Carrick or Vice Chancellor's awards,
to inform improvement processes, and for inclusion in promotion
and probation processes.

Student Feedback on Teaching: 2008 Sample Form |
The survey was developed and piloted in 2006 with a sample of approximately
1700 students and was trialled as a paper survey on a larger scale
in the second half of 2007 with over 7,000 student responses.
Due to a range of issues with the paper survey process, a decision
was taken to move the survey online in Semester 1, 2008. In
order to avoid oversureying and to try to minimise confusion, the
Student Feedback on Units survey was significantly scaled back
in semester one 2008, and only units which had significant change
or issues as identified by the faculty, were included in that
round.
Due to the difficulty of reliably linking students to individual
staff members, all students enrolled in a unit, will see links for
all staff who have been nominated to be surveyed for that
unit. Because staff have been nominated for a selection of
units, it may be that students have links for more than one staff
member for a unit (for example, lecturer and tutor) but also possible
that none of their teachers are listed. SPQ will conduct an audit
of responses to confirm their accuracy.
The policies and procedures relating to the Stakeholder Surveys
including the University Surveys Strategy (you can click through
to individual survey procedures from the Word document) and the
Survey Access & Reporting Guidelines are available on the Policies
and Procedures Database.
