The Atrium
John Street, Hawthorn Campus

The structure is built from ethylene tera-fluro ethylene (ETFE), a material initially developed for the space industry.

The area is completely transparent, allowing the Atrium to be lit naturally. The Atrium covers the area between the Business and Arts and Library buildings on the Hawthorn Campus. The space is filled with tables and chairs, and can be used in any weather.

The commercial operation within the area is not able to be moved and has the right to operate as normal during events, and there is a noise restriction for the area. (Protocol requirements)

ATC Lecture Theatre

The area offers fixed seating of 450 which can be extended with additional seating to 480 capacity. Fixed seating can be retracted to open up an area of 528 sq metres and time consideration is required if seating is to be retracted. As the primary purpose of the Theatre is teaching activites, requests for its use need to address the Key Event Space Use Protocols. A small kitchenette is also available. (Protocol requirements)

ATC Foyer

This space is irregular in shape and can be used for small University official functions and static displays at various times during the year. Larger functions of up to 480 may be acceptable when the theatre is not in use. Noise level restrictions are in force and will need to be adhered to. A small kitchenette is also available. This space is available for official University functions outside of the main teaching periods and exams and can be only be booked in conjunction with the ATC Foyer. (Protocol requirements)

Situated opposite the ATC theatre and Haddons this is an ideal space for small functions and catering purposes for official functions. The area can handle functions up to 50 persons. (Protocol requirements)

This space is irregular in shape tapering from 13 to 4 metres in width. As this area is directly in front of the Cafe applicants will be asked to advise the café operators if food/drink is to be prepared and or served.

The area includes GS101 (101 sqm); GS102 (143 sqm); GS104 (113 sqm); GS151 dependant on the need for flow through and egress and is available for both University official functions and by student groups that are officially recognized by the University and registered with SSAA. Cooking and preparation of food in these spaces is not permissible. (Protocol requirements)

The area is bounded by John Street and includes the precincts of the ATC, AD and EN buildings.

As this area is close to the John Street cafe applicants will be asked to advise the café operators if food/drink is to be prepared and or served.

John Street Walkway

This area is on the Western side of John Street, approximately in front of the AD building. It also faces the main entrance to the Atrium.

The area is the main throughfare of the campus so there are limitations on size of events due to constant required access.

This area includes the area in front Swinergy, John Street and Wakefield Street. It is a synthetic grass area with a pedestrian path cutting diagonally across. Due to the synthetic nature of the surface, BBQ’s or preparation of food involving hot foods must be conducted on the John Street verge. There is fixed bench seating.

AGSE Corner

This area is parallel to the John Street frontage of the AGSE on the Western side of John Street. It is the mid way point between the campus and offers a public front.

This is the area in front of Swinburne College and includes the undercover area near the fountain and can be booked for University official functions and by student groups that are officially recognized by the University and/or registered with SSAA.

The area is sensitive to environmental conditions so applicants will need to address the Key Event Space Use Protocols and Open Space policies

This area is located on the Third Floor of the UN building above the Bookshop. It comprises of both and internal and external terrace . Alcohol can only be served if the event organiser has a temporary liquor licence.

TAFE Walkway

This area is the northern end of John Street and runs between the TAFE Buildings. As this is a main throughfare it is suitable for small displays and stalls. There is a noise restriction for the area.

This area is in front of the entrance to the SSAA Lounge. It has fixed seating and tables.

This is a paved area directly in front of the LA building. Due to the proximity of the LA cafe the operators need to be consulted/advised in respect to all events as a matter of courtesy. There is fixed bench seating.
