Absence from an examination

Students are expected to attend examinations at the scheduled time. It is a student's responsibility to notify the Unit Convenor or the Faculty's Manager of Students and Programs as soon as possible where they are unable to attend a test or examination.

Students who experiences illness, misadventure or other extraordinary cause or circumstance reasonably beyond their control and as a result are absent from an examination, may apply for special consideration. Students who fail to notify their Faculty that they are unable to attend the examination will have no grounds for appeal unless the failure to notify is reasonably beyond a student's control.

Application for special consideration forms are available from Faculty offices and must be made no later than 5.00pm on the third working day after the date of the examination.

An application made after the relevant date, or not on the approved form, may be lodged with the Administration Manager of the Awarding Academic Unit for evaluation by the Unit Convenor. In circumstances where the Convenor is satisfied that it was not possible for the application to have been made on the prescribed form or on an earlier date, the application will be evaluated. It should be anticipated, however, that late applications will not normally be accepted.

Please note: Students who apply for and are granted a special examination due to illness, misadventure or other extraordinary cause or circumstance, but who subsequently do not attend due to further or continued illness or extraordinary circumstance, shall be afforded the opportunity to apply for one additional special examination only. This examination, subject to the approval of the relevant Dean, will be set in the next examination period when this unit of study is offered. If a student fails this examination, or fails to attend the examination, a fail grade will be recorded in the students' academic records.

Please note that different rules apply for TAFE external examinations
