What to do if you are notified of allegations of misconduct or corruption against someone at Swinburne University

1. If a staff member opens a letter which makes allegations of misconduct or corruption against someone at Swinburne:

Immediately contact the University’s Protected Disclosure Coordinator by phone to notify of the disclosure and seek advice.  Staff should place the letter into a separate envelope and forward, or hand deliver, the letter to the “Protected Disclosure Coordinator” -

DO NOT discuss the contents of the letter with anyone (other than the Protected Disclosure Coordinator) as it is offence under the Whistleblower Protection Act 2001 to divulge information.

2. If a staff member receives a telephone call which makes allegations of misconduct or corruption against someone at Swinburne:

Immediately advise the caller to contact the University’s Protected Disclosure Coordinator, the Vice-Chancellor or the Ombudsman.  DO NOT discuss the contents of the discussion with anyone as it is offence under the Whistleblower Protection Act 2001 to divulge information.

3. If someone speaks to you about allegations of misconduct or corruption:

Immediately refer them to the University’s Whistleblower Protection webpage and Whistleblower Protection Policy: http://www.swinburne.edu.au/corporate/hr/whistleblower/index.htm or refer them to the University’s Protected Disclosure Coordinator.  DO NOT discuss the contents with anyone as it is offence under the Whistleblower Protection Act 2001 to divulge information.
