Joint Consultative Committee

The Swinburne University of Technology, Academic and General Staff Enterprise Agreement 2009, which commenced operation on 30 March 2010, requires the establishment of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC). The JCC is a standing committee and is the forum for consultation with the University regarding implementation of the Swinburne University of Technology, Academic and General Staff Enterprise Agreement 2009.

Clause 54 of the Swinburne University of Technology, Academic and General Staff Enterprise Agreement 2009 provides that the parties shall establish a consultative mechanism with equal representation of the University and the Union. The procedures of the consultative committee shall be appropriate to its size, structure and need for consultation and negotiation on matters affecting or arising from the implementation of the agreement.

Swinburne Classification Committee

Swinburne Classifications Committee

The Swinburne Classifications Committee meets at regular intervals, to classify positions where:

  • A revised organisational structure has been proposed which requires the review of all positions and their classifications; or
  • The duties and responsibilities of an existing position have changed substantially so as to suggest that the position may no longer be appropriately classified. These changes are expected to be on going and therefore the reclassification should be permanent.
  • The applicant has not applied for a review of their classification within the previous twelve months unless a substantial change in duties and responsibilities occurs within that period.
  • The staff member is employed at level four and five has reached the maximum salary point for this level

Membership of the Committee

The Swinburne Classifications Committee shall comprise the following members:

  • Up to two members of staff as nominated by the University;
  • Up to two members of staff as nominated by the union.

Managers are to lodge requests for classification of position descriptions by the time-lines indicated below.

For Re-Classification

  1. Revised position description
  2. Organisation chart of the area
  3. A Completed Classification form (A4 form) outlining key changes to the position requirements. Please indicate the existing classification of the position on this documentation.
  4. The effective date of a classification/reclassification will be the date of lodgement of the application with Human Resources.

For New Position Description Classification

  1. A Completed New Position Classification form (A5 form)

Failure to provide all documentation may result in a delay in the position being reviewed

Existing positions must have sign-off by the position occupant and the Head of Management Unit.

Institue Consultative Committee of Swinburne University & the Australian Education Union

Institute Consultative Committee of Swinburne University and the Australian Education Union

Clause 9 of the Victorian TAFE Teaching Staff Multi-Business Agreement 2009 provides for the establishment of an Institute Consultative Committee.

The Institute Consultative Committee shall operate under the established Protocols for the conduct of the Institute Consultative Committee as agreed to by Institute and Union representatives.

The Institute Consultative Council of Swinburne University of Technology and the Australian Education Union consults on matters affecting TAFE Teachers' terms and conditions of employment.
