8 March 2011 - International Women's Day 2011
On Tuesday 8 March 2011, Swinburne celebrated International Women's Day in the new George Swinburne Building. The theme for 2011 was "Celebrating 100 years" and presentations were given by Acting Vice-Chancellor Andrew Flitman and Kathy Bowlen, National Media Manager of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service and former ABC journalist.
The event was well attended by both staff and students. Purple ribbons were sold with proceeds raised going to UN Women Australia.
International Women's Day is celebrated around the world on 8 March as a day to honour women's actions and achievements and recognise continuing challenges in achieving equity and fairness.
