Planning
The Facilitiy Master Plan
This Master Plan, which guides the physical
development of Swinburne University over the next 5 to 10 years,
has been endorsed by the Swinburne University Council.
This is the first time in the history of Swinburne that such an
extensive and comprehensive level of infrastructure planning has
been achieved. This is a significant milestone for Swinburne and
everyone is invited to view the Master Plan, Master Plan Highlights
and the Capital Management Plan displayed on the FSG website by

Facility Master
Plan
The Facility Master Plan will allow the University to develop its
facilities across all campuses and to build on an already solid
reputation of teaching and research achievement. The Master Plan
will maximise our potential with modern and environmentally-sensitive
facilities equipped with up-to-date technology. The next few years
will see substantial activity, particularly at Hawthorn, which has
the oldest building stock.
The Master Plan is based on planned and anticipated growth and
thus should be viewed as a fluid document that may be refined to
reflect the environment as development occurs.

Capital Management
Plan (CMP)
The Capital Management Plan (CMP) has been developed to support
the Facility Master Plan and anticipates spending $82 million over
the next 5 years. The CMP for 2006 was approved at the last meeting
of the Finance Committee. The 2006 CMP will see major refurbishment
in the BA building on levels 10, 11 and12 as academic offices and
levels 2 and 6 as additional teaching spaces. Major refurbishment
will also occur in the EN building with 3 new tiered lecture theatres
on level 1, academic teaching spaces on levels 2 and 3 and academic
offices on levels 5 and 6.
Other works planned for 2006 include major refurbishments of the
EW building and Hawthorn Library, the relocation of Swinburne Press
from Hawthorn to Croydon, and temporary medium term movements of
staff to allow for the retirement of leased properties in keeping
with the Master Plan.
