General guidelines of parking

Unreserved Carparks (Staff and Students)
Please note guidelines apply to all campuses however unreserved fees are only charged in following carparks:
Hawthorn – Multideck, Henry St and Paterson St
Prahran – Carparks 1& 7

Parking in University carparks is on a fee-paying basis. Tickets can be purchased in carparks from the ticket machines provided (see Ticket Machines) or from Multideck carpark, Wakefield St Hawthorn campus.

Parking at Swinburne University of Technology is undertaken strictly at the owner's risk and for University business only.

Parking ticket (see Ticket Machines and Fees & Charges) and the parking sticker (see Parking Stickers) should be displayed clearly on front windscreen of vehicle.

The right to park is not a condition of enrolment or employment and Swinburne reserves the right to deny or rescind parking provisions if circumstances require.

Vehicles can only be parked in designated parking bays. Contravention will attract a parking infringement (PIN). All University campuses have been gazetted and sign posted as per the requirements of the Road Safety Act 1986 parking regulation.

Drivers must observe any signs at the entrance to or within Swinburne carparks and must comply with directions given by any Parking Officer or Security Officer.

If a parking ticket machine is not operational it is the drivers responsibility to use another machine and display a valid ticket. Disciplinary action may be taken against any person interfering with the operation of the ticket machines (service phone number is shown on ticket machine).

Staff Reserved Car Parks
Staff and students must not park in areas marked ‘No Parking', ‘Reserved', ‘Pooled vehicles only' or ‘Disabled' unless showing the appropriate sticker (see Parking Stickers).

Terms and conditions are subject to change without notice.

Parking sticker descriptions

Unreserved Parking Stickers (Staff and Students)
Applications must be filled in for staff and students to receive their yearly unreserved sticker. These stickers are needed for the following carparks:
Hawthorn – Henry St and Paterson St, and disabled bays Wakefield St
Prahran – Carparks 1, 7 and 8.

Stickers are provided free of charge once Student or Staff ID card is provided. Each year stickers are colour coded to indicate year and type (Unreserved staff, student, Reserved or pooled).

The sticker must be displayed on the front windscreen of vehicle at all times.

Unreserved stickers are for identification purposes only. A daily ticket needs to be purchased when parked in Swinburne Unreserved carparks (see Campus Plans).

Please see campus plans for locations of carparking areas on all campuses.

Staff Reserved Parking Stickers
Reserved stickers are issued from Facilities & Services following a successful application for salary packaging found on Human Resources website, Form D2 Salary Packaging.

The Reserved stickers have their own colour and are issued at the beginning of each year. Reserved parking entitles the holder to one Reserved bay on their home campus. When travelling to other campuses, parking is on a search and find basis in the Unreserved carparks only (no daily ticket is needed). The sticker will show the allocated home campus carpark and bay number.

If you do not have Salary packaging and you still wish to have a reserved bay (first come, first served basis) then contact the Carparking Contractor at the multideck carpark Hawthorn Campus, phone (03) 9818 3255. On availability of a reserved bay payment is made a month in advance on which a monthly permit is issued (see Fees and Charges). Failure to pay could result in a loss of the bay to the next person on the waiting list.

Staff Pooled Vehicle Stickers
Pooled stickers are issued by Facilities & Services on the basis that the holder is salary packaging and pooling their vehicle when they are not using it. The Pooled sticker has its own colour and is issued at the beginning of each year.

Pooled salary packaged vehicles are to go into the general fleet vehicle pool when the assigned staff member is not using it. Spare keys are to be given to the Facilities & Services department at Prahran, Wantirna and Croydon campuses, TAFE reception at Hawthorn Campus, and reception at Lilydale campus at times when vehicle is available for pool use as well as times of vehicle availability.

Pooled vehicles are allocated a reserved bay on the home campus. When travelling to other campuses pooled vehicles can park in the ‘Pooled Vehicle' area (see Campus Plans for locations).

The Pooled sticker will show the Vehicle registration number as well as the allocated Carpark and bay number.

Disabled Parking Stickers
Disabled staff and students require an Unreserved sticker as well as a generic disabled sticker (available from either their Council or VicRoads) displayed.

Visitor Parking Stickers
Daily visitor Parking permits are available from Facilities & Services. Visitor parking is only available to external parties (e.g. Guest speakers who donate their time, Chancellory visitors, some contractors) etc.

Staff can make bookings for Visitor parking on behalf of external parties by contacting Facilities & Services and booking in advance. The stickers are then picked up at the following campuses:
Hawthorn, Facilities & Services, 24 George St
Prahran, Facilities & Services, Building PG room 103
Croydon, Main reception desk.
Wantirna, Main reception desk
Lilydale, Main reception desk

Infringements will be issued if vehicles are parked contrary to guidelines of parking on Swinburne University carparks in accordance with Vic Road Regulations.

When issued with an infringement the holder is given a pink copy and has 28 days to appeal the infringement from date of issue.

To make an appeal against an infringement a letter is to be written with the pink copy of infringement enclosed and sent to the address shown on infringement. The holder will then be told in writing whether the appeal has been approved or not.

If approved your fine will be waived. If declined the fine must be paid or the infringement will go through to the Perin Court.

Motorcycles

See campus plans for locations of motorcycle parking at Swinburne. Please note NEW motorcycle parking allocated bays west side of the TD building Hawthorn campus.

Motorcycles parking within Swinburne University building lines must park in allocated motorcycle parking areas only otherwise infringements will be issued. No charges apply.

VicRoads allow motorcycles to park on public footpaths as long as there is enough width for disabled access and pedestrians.

Lt Chapel Street carpark update

There is an equipment update commencing shortly in the Lt Chapel Street carpark where our staff and students are able to park on the rooftop level for $5.50 per day.

As from Monday 30/11/09 an automatic payment machine will be installed and the parking cashier booth removed.  However, car park staff will be available to assist parkers during the transition process.

Stonnington Council will continue to honour its discount parking deal with Swinburne staff and students, in accordance to existing terms and conditions.  The only difference will be that there is a requirement for SUT staff and students to be issued with a discount parking card by the car park.  We will notify you with the times and hours the Little Chapel Street car park will be staffed in order to organise this function.  Otherwise the Prahran Market car park will be staffed 24/7 and SUT staff and student can arrange for the discount card there if the scheduled times at Lt Chapel St are not convenient.
