Central Timetable Project
Swinburne University of Technology is a large multi-sectoral and multi-campus institution with a stated mission to be a pre-eminent entrepreneurial university from the Asia-Pacific, thriving on new ideas and knowledge and exploiting its intersectoral heritage to create value for its stakeholders.
Facilities and Services Group has a responsibility for creating, developing and maintaining the physical environment that supports the core activities of the University namely, teaching and learning, research and consultancy. This requires that the Facilities and Services Group deliver a diverse range of services to clients covering the broader University community.
With the continued increase in Student numbers and diverse ways teaching events are presented there is now a pressing need to use wisely our physical resources for timetabling for now and future use. This is the aim of the Space Utilisation Review.
To assist in distributing information about the project and important milestones this web page has been developed which from time to time will have updated information.
This project is a very important undertaking for the University. At present we are already one of the most densely populated universities in the country, with 7.1 sq.m./EFTSL compared with the national average of 14.6 sq.m./EFTSL. This, coupled with a projected increase in student numbers and research activities over the life of the 2015 University Plan, and, the changing landscape of both Higher and Vocational Education, makes this one of the most important initiatives currently underway across the University. By improving our utilisation of existing spaces, we can literally save hundreds of millions of dollars for the University, which can be re-directed back into teaching, learning and staff development.
