Employees wishing to undertake TAFE courses may be eligible to a discount of 15% or more depending on eligibility of government funding and availability of places.

Study Leave

General and Academic

General and Academic staff are provided study leave in the Certified Agreement:

To be eligible for study leave, a course of study must be relevant to the employee's position and have the ability to enhance the knowledge, skills and/or expertise of the incumbent. It is the responsibility of the Head of Management Unit to determine whether or not a course of study meets these requirements in order for an employee to have an entitlement to this provision.

Where relevant to the person's position, study leave may be granted as follows:

  • one subject per semester: up to 3 hours per week for the attendance of lectures and tutorials and up to 2 days per annum for the preparing and attending of examinations.
  • two or more subjects per semester: up to five hours per week for the attendance of lectures and tutorials and up to 4 days per annum for the preparing and attending of examinations.
  • Distance Education: as above, with the employee being entitled to the stated hours for the preparation of course work, rather than the attending lectures or tutorials. Preparing and attending examinations is in accordance with the above mentioned formula, depending of number of subjects.

TAFE Teaching

TAFE Teachers are provided 30 hours of scheduled duties for professional development each year and, in accordance with the certified agreement, will not be unreasonably refused (paid and/or unpaid) study leave or industrial release related to qualification and skills required for progression.
