Students being selected into the Graduate Program remain competitive despite the skill shortage in the labour market. The program is used to recruit and develop 'potential managers' for an organisation. In turn, successful applicants are offered a range of benefits, which might include mentoring by senior staff, rotation, peer support network, additional training. A graduate recruitment program is just one way for the larger organisations to source new talent in a wide range of disciplines. |

Do you realise |
| |
|
Most graduate recruiters recruit up to a year in advance, so you need to ensure that you regularly check their websites and 'My Career' section of the Saturday's Age to make sure you don't miss out. This is particularly important from March to September. |

| |
When to start looking |
|
|
You should begin to explore employment opportunities in the first semester of your final year. Besides getting a head start, you will also have more time to concentrate on your final exams instead of worrying about employment prospects. |

When do companies start recruiting? |
| |
|
Larger organisations start recruiting graduates commencing in March each year. Besides attending the activities we organise (see Events in SwinEmploy), you should also keep a lookout for jobs advertised in major newspapers - The Age, The Australian etc. as well as the Graduate Careers Australia website. |
