Looking for a Student Tutor?
Please read the information below before filling in the Request Form. Your tutoring requests will be advertised on the SwinEmploy Online Job Service and interested Swinburne students and graduates will contact you directly.
Wanting to work as a Student Tutor?
Students looking for tutoring jobs should check SwinEmploy and respond to tutor requests. Also check your local newspaper's classified section or register with Tuition-Education (tutoring agencies) listed in the Yellow Pages.
Important notice
From 30th June 2010 the Victorian Government will require any person providing coaching or tuition services of any kind for children to obtain a Working with Children Check. This requirement will be phased in from 1 July 2009 and after 30 June 2010 will become mandatory. It is the responsibility of employers and employees to ensure they understand and adhere to their respective obligations in regard to the Working with Children Check.
Think about what you want the tutor to do
Ask yourself if you require someone to...
- help you achieve the best possible performance or someone to teach concepts?
- what subjects do you want to be tutored in?
- how often do you want tutoring and how long?
- where will the session be held?
Choosing the best Tutor
To help you choose the best tutor it is helpful to have a list of questions such as:
- tell me about yourself, what are you studying at University
- what previous experience do you have as a tutor?
- what times are you available?
Tutoring Pay Guidelines
The following minimum tutoring pay rates have been recommended by the Student Employment Officers' Association of Victoria (which represents all Universities and TAFE institutes):
These rates are for tutoring by undergraduates
- Primary and Secondary up to Year 10 - $22 per hour
- VCE (Year 11 and Year 12) - $25 per hour
- Tertiary - $30 per hour
* Postgraduate students may charge an extra $5 per hour - negotiable
** Tutoring two students may be charged at time and a half - negotiable
*** Tutoring three students may be charged at double time - negotiable
