Careers & Employment offers the CWIC program to TAFE staff to assist their students in career preparation.
One hour long workshops based on career planning and job search techniques can be booked via the online booking form. Workshop topics include the following but can be adapted to suit your students' needs

Career Planning - A Skill For Life
Your students have nearly finished their course and are wondering what to do next? This workshop is designed to look at the options available by beginning to plan their careers. They might have heard the statistics on the number of career changes they are likely to make but how will this affect them and how will they cope? This workshop will explain to your students how to plan their career, the benefits of career planning and possible strategies to cope with change.

Students will need a good resume if they are planning to look for work. In this workshop they will be shown many resumes and will find out; the "Do's and Don'ts" of resume writing, current theories of resume writing and what makes a good or bad resume. Whether they are writing a traditional "hard copy" resume or an electronic resume this workshop will be relevant.

Job Hunting On The Internet And Online Applications
Today there are many more jobs advertised on the internet than in the newspapers. Find out how to use this important resource and the best job web sites. Learn about the requirements of online applications and to how to complete them effectively.

Ideas And Tips for A Successful Cover Letter
Targeted cover letters increase the chance that resumes will be read and that students will go on to the interview stage. This workshop will give them the fundamentals to writing an appropriate letter to accompany their resume.

Interviews - How To Plan, Prepare And Perform
Most interview mistakes are made because of a lack of understanding of what impresses (or does not impress) interviewers. This workshop will look at the most common types of interviews and interview questions. It will help students to understand what employers want to hear, helping them to avoid common mistakes.

Following from "interviews - How to Plan, Prepare and Perform", this workshop provides students with the opportunity of 'rehearsing' and role playing various scenarios and interview questions. It is recommended that to get the most out of this workshop, students have attended the prior workshop as outlined above.

Employability Skills - What Are Employers Looking For?
Employers have been surveyed extensively to find out exactly what skills they are looking for in employees, particularly those who have just gained a formal qualification. Students will find out the outcomes to these surveys and how to describe their skills so that employers view them positively.

Contacting employers directly over the phone is a fast and efficient way of determining job vacancies. It also ensures that student's applications are targeted and received in a format that meets each employer's differing expectations and needs. Let them find out how to write a spiel and prepare to contact companies you would like to work for.

Group Resume And Cover Letter Checks
Following on from the workshops "Writing a Winning Resume" and "Ideas and Tips for a Successful Cover Letter", this workshop is an opportunity to receive feedback on student's attempts at drafting their own job searching documents. It is recommended that prior to attending this workshop students read handouts on resumes and cover letters. Students will also need to bring their own resume, cover letters, the job advertisement, and/or selection criteria as appropriate to the assistance they require.
