		Voluntary jobs are usually offered by non-profit organisations but can also include event organisations completing events for charitable, philantropic, benevolent, recreational, educational or cultural purposes

	W i l l I b e c o v e r e d b y i n s u r a n c e ?
		Only students undertaking approved Voluntary Work Experience Program WILL be covered by Swinburne University's personal injury or property insurance. Students undertaking voluntary work programs NOT approved by Careers and Employment are NOT covered by Swinburne's insurance.

		Volunteering helps you to gain some real life experiences which is relevant to your potential future and may increase your chances to better career choices. Participating in voluntary work can often give you a competitive edge when it comes time to look for work. Not only does it benefit you but it also addresses the human, environmental and social needs of the community therefore can be highly rewarding. Volunteer work can provide valuable work experience and be an important step to a full-time or part-time position in your chosen industry. Whether it is paid or unpaid is highly valued by prospective employers. Many employers prefer to hire staff who have some voluntary work experience, and often even a few months as a volunteer worker can be enough to give employers the extra confidence to take the chance on you.
