Part VA

Part VA of the Copyright Act 1968 is a statutory licence, which allows educational institutions to copy and communicate Australian television and radio broadcast material for educational purposes without obtaining permission from the copyright owner.

To exercise this right educational institutions must have an agreement and make a yearly payment with the collecting society Screenrights.

Staff at Swinburne are able to use Part VA to copy broadcast material for educational purposes, however they are required to comply with certain requirements to do so - see TV and radio broadcasts.

In addition, Swinburne has to undertake regular surveys during which time staff are required to report all copying undertaken under Part VA.

Information about using material under Part VA is available from Screenrights.
