Skilled Migration Internship Program: Accounting (SMIPA)
Overview
Gone are the days when being an accountant simply meant crunching numbers and filing tax returns. Today’s graduates need to be prepared for a dynamic workplace. And that’s what the Skilled Migration Internship Program: Accounting (SMIPA) is all about.
This 12-month program provides a fresh insight into the Australian workplace and includes:
- Practical training and workshops

- Access to networking opportunities and professional development.
It has been developed in conjunction with CPA Australia, the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the National Institute of Accountants, so you’ll get an insight into what industry employers are looking for.
Who is it for?
SMIPA is aimed at international students who have obtained a bachelor or master degree in accounting from a recognised Australian tertiary institution.
You must hold a Skilled – Graduate (Temporary) visa (subclass 485) or Bridging Visa A. Student visa holders are not eligible for this program.

NEW! Skilled Occupation List
The new Skilled Occupation List came into effect on Tuesday 1 July 2010. The good news is that it doesn't affect current or future students of the Professional Year Program. All occupations relevant to these programs have been included on the new list. Find out more info on the DIAC website.
Swinburne University of Technology cannot provide any assurances in relation to potential migration outcomes. Rules around migration are subject to change. Applicants wishing to undertake this program should contact DIAC or a registered migration agent if they are seeking a migration outcome.
