Who and where are we?


The Chaplaincy Unit encourages an awareness of the relevance of faith, religion and spirituality in people's lives and in our community. The spiritual dimension of life is real and important.

All Swinburne campuses have access to a Chaplain who is available for the whole campus community to help with any issues of life or meaning. Visiting chaplains can be arranged for specific religious groups such as Catholic, Lutheran, Orthodox, Jewish and Islamic.

Swinburne Chaplain and co-ordinator of Chaplaincy, Newton is based on the Hawthorn campus and available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. He periodically visits the other campuses. Assistant Chaplain (Chaplain to Overseas Students), Chris is based on the Hawthorn campus and available on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. He is available to all international students, regardless of religious affiliation or lack of it. If you want to find people of your own language group, locate a church with similar cultural background or want assistance in coping with Australia, contact Chris.
  Daniel Rabbin (Rabbi) Daniel is available almost all of the time for students' needs, whether spiritual or other, private or community, and can be contacted either on (03) 9522 8259 / 0430 770 115 or via email: daniel@chabadcampus.org.au Rabbi Daniel Rabin serves as Jewish Chaplain/Rabbi to students & staff at Swinburne University. His experience has been working with Jewish students for many years and Rabbi Rabin has worked across the globe including USA, South Africa, Israel and Australia working as a Rabbi/Chaplain for students. Rabbi Rabin is the director of Chabad Campus a branch of the worldwide Chabad on Campus organization which serves Universities across the globe.. He spends his week visiting Victorian university campuses from Latrobe Bundoora to Melbourne Uni, Deakin Burwood and of course Swinburne. He runs shiurim (Jewish classes) both on and off campus daily, hosts Kosher lunches on a regular basis at Swinburne, hosts regular Shabbat meals for students, and a variety of other activities including spiritual weekends away, concerts, Jewish festivals and much more.

He has information about the student-run Christian group on campus and about local churches. and information regarding food parcels available on Monday and Wednesday 11am-1.00pm
